Step 1:
For this tutorial i have already got my main background ready- here is
a simple Rainforst canope scene. the lightest area is where the sun is
breaking through a gap in the trees. Looks a little plain huh? Well in
realistic circumstances a ray of light would come through the gap, and
that is just what i am going to show you how to draw! |
 |
Step 2:
With the eyedropper/colour picker tool select the lightest colour in
the gap. Here is is a cream. Then select the Polygonal Lasso this is in
the mask drop down menu (press down on the mask icon to bring the drop
down menu up)
|
 |
Step 3:
Using the Polygonal Mask tool create your ray shape. Itll be thinner
or thicker depending on the size of the gap. A Ray gets wider as it reaches
the floor. like so. |
 |
Step 4:
Select Gradient fill (press down on the fill bucket icon) and then on
the top toolbar, change the gradient to foreground to transparent. |
 |
Lower the Opacity to about/just under 50% |
 |
Step 5:
Use the gradient - make sure you gradiate it in the same direction as
the ray. |
 |
Step 6:
Deselect the mask (click the mask icon then right click the selection
you had made and press 'deselect'
Select the smudge tool and smudge the sharpedges the mask left at the
top, and then smudge the edges - again, smudge in the same direction as
your ray.
Make some smudges from the top and pull down - as it makes it look a
bit more natural. |
 |
And there you have it a ray! |
